Step Into an Authentic European Dining Experience at La Bicyclette

Belgian-born owner Gaston Georis' Carmel restaurant roots go back to the early 1970s when he opened his first eatery—in the same location that now houses La Bicyclette. The name was inspired by the fact that when the restaurant first opened, a bicycle was the mode of transportation used to fetch customers' wine orders from an extensive wine cellar a few blocks away. "Now, the bicycle is also part of our décor, and our philosophy," Gaston said. "It symbolizes freedom, movement and balance in our lives and our menus." Stepping into La Bicyclette, one feels transported to a different place and time. "Many customers tell me they felt like they went to Paris but didn't get the bill for the plane ticket."

The fare at La Bicyclette reflects classic European bistro food updated to a more contemporary approach based on the farm-to-table bounty readily available in Monterey County. "We prepare nearly every single menu item in our wood fired ovens," said Gaston, "from gnocchi to omelets to eggs to pizza."

Sadly, we recently lost Gaston, but given his long career, it's significant that Gaston said of Bicyclette: "This is the restaurant where I can be the most creative…and also have the most fun."

Breakfast - Friday, Saturday & Sunday from 8:30am-10:30am, walk-in only.
