There is a very good reason that A.W. Shucks is one of the busiest restaurants on Ocean Avenue. "People love our food and they love our staff," says Michelle Sapon who owns the restaurant with her husband Michael. "We get lots of repeat business from both visitors and locals. That's the ultimate compliment."

A seafood pub, A.W. Shucks specializes in an ever-changing lineup of oysters—plus a full menu of classics like New England and Manhattan clam chowders along with burgers, chili and sandwiches. Perhaps the most popular dish is the fish and chips…with the tuna melt as a close second. "We're also having a lot of success with our oyster and shrimp po'boy sandwiches," Michelle says.

"One thing people don't often realize is the superlative selection of liquors we have," Michael adds. "For instance, our bar stocks 135 Scotches—including several ultra-rare bottles—50 vodkas, 81 bourbons and whiskeys, 36 gins, 23 brands of rum and 65 tequilas."

A.W. Shucks (the name is a play on words) was founded in 1993 and purchased by the Sapons in 2006. "We love Carmel. When we walked in here, we knew right away we wanted to own this place," Michelle recalls. "Our team creates the heartbeat of A.W. Shucks. We are a well-oiled machine and our kitchen staff are magicians."
