Location: 6th b/w Dolores & Lincoln
October 17 - 31, 2026

This October, Hijos del Sol Arts Productions is bringing the art, traditions, stories and creative energy of East Salinas to Carmel for a one-of-a-kind Días a los Muertos experience designed to be lived, not simply viewed.

Hosted at Carmel Modern, this special collaboration has been made possible through the extraordinary generosity of gallery founder and artist John Cromwell, who has offered HDS the gallery walls and space at no cost and has been completely supportive of this project from the very beginning. Carmel Modern's welcoming contemporary gallery provides the perfect setting for bringing artists, families and communities together.

The workshops culminate with an evening event on October 31 from 4-7pm with an immersive five-senses experience filled with visual art, music, food, scent, storytelling, remembrance and human connection. Young and established East Salinas artists will exhibit and sell their work, families and guests will be invited to participate in the evolving installation, and visitors may bring a photograph or memento for our community ofrenda.

Guests are encouraged to have fun with the evening and dress as their favorite artist or creator — an artist in any sense of the word — or as a Catrina or Catrín.

This event also serves as an important fundraiser for Hijos del Sol Arts Productions, supporting our free arts programming for children, youth and families in East Salinas while also creating opportunities for participating artists to exhibit and sell their work to new audiences.
