Come From Away is a heartwarming musical that tells the true story of how the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, welcomed 7,000 stranded airline passengers during the aftermath of the September 11 attacks.
The story begins with the townspeople of Gander learning about the attacks and the subsequent closure of U.S. airspace. As planes are rerouted, the local community springs into action, preparing to host the stranded passengers. The musical captures the confusion and uncertainty experienced by the travelers as they await information about their flights and safety.
As the days unfold, the residents of Gander provide food, shelter, and emotional support to the passengers, forming deep connections and friendships. The musical highlights various true stories of kindness, cultural exchange, and shared humanity amidst the global tragedy. Eventually, as U.S. airspace reopens, the passengers prepare to leave, leading to emotional goodbyes filled with gratitude and promises to stay in touch.
The musical serves as a poignant reminder of the goodness that can emerge even in the darkest of times.
