7th Annual "Meet the Makers"

Bea was born in Bratislava, Slovakia where she studied graphic design at School of Animation and continued her education by receiving Magister degree in marketing communications and mass media.

After over a decade long break from creating art she came back to it slowly over the past seven years and fully immersed herself in painting in the last five years.

Bea uses many different techniques and mixed media in her expression. She dabbles in tapestry, print making, book binding, paper making and painting. In many of her works at least two of these meet to create an unexpected experience.

Most of her works focuses on relations. Exploring how the same patterns and colors appear different depending on their surroundings. Much like the human experience.

" I am a color seeker, I always loved combining unexpected patterns, I love to create amusing pieces that make you look twice. Creating art can be very vulnerable place to exist. You are putting your soul into making something that makes complete sense to you and the anticipation of reaction from others is often paralyzing. I create for myself, I do what is driving me. Then, if I feel like I can share my works, I take them out into the light, for others to see. I refuse to put any restrains or brand on my body of work. I might be a painter this decade and sculptor the next. "

In 2024 she opened studio in Carmel-by-the-Sea, where you can find her, her works and works of local artists and California based artisans.

Founded in 1927, Carmel's oldest gallery features the work of more than 85 professional local artists, and is dedicated to presenting only the finest work for sale by artists living on the Monterey Peninsula. The Carmel Art Association displays a wide variety of styles and media, and changes its exhibitions every month. The historic building provides exhibition space for its members' works and in the interest of community involvement sponsors film series, lectures, concerts, art demonstrations and special fund-raising events. The Carmel Art Association is a 501(c)(3).

Carmel Modern is focused on contemporary art by California artists. Artists include John Cromwell, Lucas Blok, Tracey Adams and more.

Nicholas Trofimuk is a fine art photographer who is known for capturing beauty – whether it be in a sensual unfolding of a flower, the rugged and expansive landscape of New Mexico or the cityscapes of London, Paris, Chicago and New York. His versatility is unlimited.  As long as a subject conveys beauty, he will use his talents to capture it, to create something where the viewer feels as though they have been transported physically, emotionally or spiritually.

In 2024, he began to spend time on the Monterey Peninsula to be near his daughter and was immediately captivated by the natural beauty of the flowers, succulents and seascapes indigenous to the area. As someone who must always be moving and creating, they quickly became his focus and Carmel Vibes Gallery was born.

A painter for more than 37 years, Bradford can also be spotted outside her gallery, where she'll be painting or gathering images on her phone for her next project. "In the morning time, I'm usually out painting at the beach," she says.

The artist grew up on Big Sur's Partington Ridge without TV or other distractions. "Our environment was very creative, because we were in the outdoors," Bradford says.

Bradford opened her Carmel-by-the-Sea gallery in May 2016. The interior is decorated with paintings depicting Carmel's missions, local mountainsides blushing with wildflowers, and ocean scenes. The artist notes that her style has become subtler over the years. "I'm learning to simplify, because the viewer can fill in the blanks," Bradford says.

She says that she loves being in Carmel because of the quiet small town and "the weather is so perfect for painting plein-air." In addition, Bradford believes the village is a great place to be a working artist. "People support my art here," she says. "People support my paint habit. I use a lot of paint."

Edi Matsumoto Art & Design is a vibrant and unique space in Carmel-by-the-Sea that blends fine art with wearable creations. Edi Matsumoto, the artist and designer behind the brand, draws inspiration from her Japanese heritage, creating a collection of art that includes paintings, scarves, kimonos, and more. Her studio is a haven for art lovers, where visitors can explore colorful, eco-friendly, and cruelty-free designs that are as functional as they are beautiful. Whether you're looking for a distinctive gift or a piece of art to wear, Edi's gallery offers a serene, immersive experience into the world of artistic expression .

Internationally collected and award winning artist, Jennifer Perlmutter, exhibits her contemporary, abstract, mixed media paintings along with guest artists that rotate throughout the year. Studio on site and artist is available by appointment.

Turner's work stars the Carmel region's landscape in a light that recalls the paintings of area artists from the late 1800s and early 1900s, including Charles Rollo Peters, Charles Dickman, and William Ritschel. The gallery also carries paintings by David Siebert and some of the works of early California artists.

Like the early California painters, Turner's main subject is the state's striking scenery. "The local landscape here is so unique and so varied," Turner says. "It's always been close to my heart."

The painter says he is specifically inspired by the plants that populate this region. "Tall Monterey pines and cypress trees are my favorite subjects right now," Turner says.

The Monterey County native is well aware of Carmel's original Bohemian artists colony and sees Carmel-by-the-Sea as a great town to be a working artist. "It is one of the few places in the U.S. where an artist can make a living selling their paintings," Turner says.

As a way of celebrating Carmel's artistic heritage and as a method for connecting local artists, Turner started the Carmel Art Walk in September 2016. "We are meeting and having these parties," he says. "It is re-sparking that unity that was once here."

The art within Kathy Sharpe's studio is a true reflection of the artist: bright, colorful, and fun. Vibrant paintings of vivid flowers, cherry pie, and cupcakes hang on the walls of this light-filled gallery in Court of the Fountains at Mission Street & 7th Avenue. With her miniature poodle-Lhasa Apso mix named Sallie in her arms, Sharpe says it was in a kindergarten class in her native Chicago where she discovered art. "There was an easel, and I got all excited," she says. "I knew what I was going to do right there."

Plein air painting is my chosen method therefore calling me to create paintings outdoors! Oil paint and an array of palette knives is my way of conveying what I see. After rendering my vision in bold shapes and color, I deconstruct the painting adding texture and angst. There is something exhilarating about spending 3 hours of your day to capturing all of that energy and beauty.  #YouHadToBeThere.

A passion ignited by a passion leads the path to success.  Since I am an avid equestrian, I like to begin my day with a ride on my horse Diamante which balances the artistic flow.  Art and horses will always intertwine in my life. It is all about that movement, which I interpret in my dressage and paintings. My best work comes from that powerful engagement and risk always plays a part. My work is impressionistic bordering in abstraction.

I am happy to share that I am a member of the prestigious Carmel Art Association. The art organization is one of the oldest in the US and represents only the very best of the region. California legendary artists' Armin Hanson and William Ritschel were early CAA members and also considered colorists that I find inspiring!

Originally, I am from South Africa but have called the Monterey Peninsula home for 30 years and counting. The incredible beauty of the region, I plan to capture within the surface of each painting for years to come.

Her packed studio showcases paintings of horses, a portrait of famed Carmel resident Clint Eastwood, and renderings of many of the town's unique buildings. Born in England and having grown up in British Columbia, Bryan moved to Carmel in 1976. The artist was aware of the village's art colony past when she settled down in the area. "That inspired me, because I thought that I am very bohemian," she says.

Bryan says she is an impressionist realist who paints an eclectic range of subjects. Having had her Carmel gallery since 1990, the artist sees no option except to follow her passion. "If I didn't have to make a living, I'd still do painting," she says. "Emotionally, it's gratifying to paint."
