Parks in Carmel-by-the-Sea

This family park is located at the corner of Camino del Monte & Junipero. If the little ones need to burn off some energy and mingle with local families, this is the place. With a playground complete with structures and swings Forest Hills Park also boasts a basketball court, a sand volleyball court, two tennis courts, horseshoe pits, barbeques, bathrooms and plenty of benches.

A sunny courtyard park with an old world charm is what guests will find when happening upon Picadilly Park. Perched on Dolores between Ocean and 7^th Avenue, benches and a gurgling fountain allow visitors to stop and relax in the shade or a sunny spot. Designed by landscape architect Walter Guthrie, the garden demonstrates the use of drought-tolerant species appropriate to the Carmel area. Many of the garden's plants are found nowhere else in the world, or in only limited areas in California. Species include the Gian Chain Ren, Red-flowering Currant, Coast Live Oak, Manzanita, Douglas Iris, Bush Anemone, and Catalina Ironwood. The park is maintained by volunteers of the Carmel-by-the-Sea Garden Club. Restrooms are available in the rear of the park.

First Murphy House is located on Lincoln and 6^th Avenue and is owned by the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea and maintained by the Carmel Heritage Society. Native plants with paths border the First Murphy House and benches surrounding the gardens are a relaxing place to stop and catch one's breath. The First Murphy House was built in 1902 by 17-year old Michael Murphy, who went on to become one of Carmel's greatest builders. Tours of the house are available. From the gardens visitors can enjoy a spectacular view of Carmel Bay. Public restrooms are located adjacent to the park.

Devendorf Park is Carmel's central gathering place, from plein air painting, Veterans and Memorial Day remembrances, to the annual tree lighting in the park. J. Frank Devendorf known as the Father of Carmel-By-the-Sea gave the land to the city; his grandson remains in Carmel-by-the-Sea – Jack Galante, a purveyor a bold red wines. The park occupies the block at Ocean and Junipero Avenues. This well-maintained urban oasis is shaded by several massive live oaks. Flowers accent on of the entry points at the corner of Ocean and Junipero. Year-round, Carmel holds special events in the park to mark the holidays. There's breakfast with the Easter Bunny, the exciting Fourth of July Party, the Halloween Parade, and a festive Tree Lighting with Santa.
